Trujillo is city with rich history. Colombus landed in Trujillo in 1502 on his fourth trip to the Americas. It was the first time that he actually stepped foot in Central America. The town was established in 1524 by the Spanish, and originally named Triunfo del la Cruz, but after some infighting it was recaptured by Cortés' men and renamed Truxillo. It became the capital of Honduras for a while, but because it was so vulnerable to pirate attacks, they moved the capital to Comayagua. William Walker, a very interesting character, was also executed here.
