Scramble to the Three Gossips

The Three Gossips is a rock formation close to the main park road in the Courthouse Towers area of Arches National Park, They have been photographed by thousands of visitors who stop at viewpoints along the park road.

But as with other features of the landscape, I wanted to see the Three Gossips from an unusual angle. The motivation for doing so came from my seeing photos taken by a former PBase member. She and friends had climbed up to the plateau just west of the Three Gossips and had lunch there. Her photos mesmerized me, causing another case of landscape lust. I had to see the Gossips from that plateau. These photos document my scrambling trip to the plateau.

The number of photos here belie the trouble I had in reaching the plateau---it took me four attempts to get there. On the first attempt I reached a dead end. The second time I had to abort the scramble because of the possibility of lightning. The third attempt used a different route that got too scary for me to complete. On the fourth trip I was successful.

These photos are from those attempts and were uploaded from Moab after very little editing.
