Campsite: just a level, gravelly spot next to the road

Floating Island, Utah

PBaser John Cooper ( http://www.pbase.com/john_cooper/profile ) tells me that free camping in
the countryside of England is unheard of or at least very difficult. The wild, wild West of the
United States still has places like this where one can park the car, set up a tent, and spend
the night in blissful isolation. However, this open/unattended landscape is not typical of the
whole country: it is most available out West in states like Utah and Nevada.

This is the northeast side of Floating Island. It is a remote place with little to attract
the average explorer. However, crazy explorers might find it fascinating, as I do. Civilization
is about 25 miles (40km) away in a straight line (longer by road). At night the sky is filled
with zillions of stars: I lost count at 2,407,018 stars---my moonlight-powered abacus went
dead (the moon wasn't out). From close to this spot I hiked to the summit.

No telescope---only binoculars, and they are not designed to be mounted on a tripod, so Joe is a happy camper.

This is the best type of camping. Wide open and lacking rows of big rv's with their generators rumbling all night. I love to find remote places like this. Do you have a telescope? If so, how does Tripod Joe get along with it?
Great landscape!
