Breakfast in the morning sun

Floating Island, Utah

Throughout the trip, breakfast was almost always a bowl of Grape Nuts Flakes cereal and some orange
juice. It took place outside, as shown here, or inside my car, or inside motel rooms. The outside
version was always the most pleasant---except when the temperature dropped into the "frost zone."

Joe Tripod, whose help made this photo possible, enjoyed the morning sun.

Note to Monte Dodge: that's my 1968 Svea stove on the ground at right. It performed well the previous night.

Larry, your mentioning of vittles is a psychic triumph! Granny whipped up the vittles. Uncle Jed sent Jethro and Ellie Mae out here to deliver them. Jethro returned home to swim in the see-ment pond. Ellie Mae stayed here with me to do some "learnin' about nature." It has always been a goal of mine to inform and educate, with the goal of expanding the horizons of others. Tutoring Ellie Mae was a bit frustrating because I had to repeat one of the lessons several times. Of course I did not show my frustration---I did not want to stifle her curiosity about the ways of the universe. In the end, the experience was most rewarding because I, too, had my horizons expanded.

I would fortune that you were scarce to run out of vittles.

Monte, you're right---the etched name on the stove is "Optimus." But I did buy it in 1968, just before leaving Seattle on a cross-country trip. Its first duty was cooking freeze-dried beef hash in Montana.

Voted,, Hey, It looks more like an Optimus Model 80( or Primus model 71) which was the same stove. Optimus bought out Primus around 1964 , but kept the Primus name on many of their stoves as Primus had a hug following and they didn't want to push people away. Later Optimus did buy out Svea as well and changed the name of the brass soup can known as the 123 to " theClimber" . I have seen a zillion stoves , but that blue and red stove housing may be a Optimus 80. Bring it next time. In any case , it is still an awesome stove and worth much more than you paid. ( Worth maybe 60/70.00 these days on ebay. More if you still have the box and paper work..

The final item I unloaded, a Tiffany lamp, was sold hours before this was taken. This is a post-sale celebration. The crowds have dispersed. Once again I am enjoying the solitude.

Looks like you're settling in for a garage sale but I don't see any garage. Did you already sell out?

Is this the sequel to "Breakfast at Tiffanys"?
