Thurmite weld, which is said to be better than old school angle bars. If you have bars, over time, you need to keep welding and adding metal as they tend to " beat" at the joint.

t's up to UP (Union Pacific Railroad) to maintain the rail.
Good catch about the initials. Was Clark Kent into graffiti? If so, I wonder if he tagged any walls at The Daily Planet. It is my understanding, based on my fragile memory, that Superman limited his interaction with steel to bending of same. Vision-welding might have been one of his powers but I cannot recall. Does this information help?
