Squirrel of the damned

A British movie of 1960---"Village of the Damned"---dealt with the possibility that childen could have unusual powers, which were often unleashed when their eyes started to glow. It was creepy, as was the sequel "Children of the Damned." Little did those movie-makers know that a variation on that theme would surface decades later in the United States. The modern-day difference is that squirrels, not children, are the ones to be feared.

There is not much to tell about this particular rodent: the only witness to its presence died at the scene in a most horrible manner. We are fortunate that he had the presence of mind to document the evil thing before giving his life in the interest of humanity. Nearby was a basket of peanuts. We conclude that it would be prudent for everyone---even those with special training in the paranormal---to stop feeding peanuts to squirrels. The next visitor to your back yard could give you the evil eye, as demonstrated here.

This panic is unnecessary. Obviously this is just a squirrelcam, transmitting live streaming video of anyone in his path, 24/7/365(+1 on leap years), over the Internet. Occasionally out-takes from the squirrelcam turn up on LeeG's galleries. We may also see bits appearing on Michigan water towers and barns as they get closer to the one-more-mile-mark. People are discouraged from hand feeding squirrel cams, as their bites are likely to implant bits.

This forum of scientific investigation is no place for humor. The danger we face is sobering.

It's really a Rat that patronized "Hair Club for Rodents"

The PR people are already at work. They're claiming that this squirrel is completely harmless, that it has been captured (and harmlessly released, of course), and that it was confirmed that it simply had just arrived (when the photo was taken) on the red-eye from Gatwick Airport. The "victim" simply died coincidentally from a heart attack. Of course, they didn't divulge the rest of the story. A search of its luggage turned up a map. The town of Midwich was circled in red.

Fear is a healthy repsonse. Whether we are fighting The Battle to destroy the Evil Invaders from other galaxies or ridding our back yards of deadly rodents, it pays to face one's fears head-on (unless, of course, they give me nightmares, in which case, pass the Valium!).

Save those stories for the campfire. You're scaring me.

What an incredible coincidence, there was also a film made in England called The "Village of the Damned". I can confirm this was based on events that happened in the town of Midwich where I was born, and an even bigger coincidence, at the same time the alleged events happened.

Dan, you know I am not at liberty to reveal the location of this frightful scene, lest the local populace go on a stampede to get out of town. The phrase "Renton Rodents" has a cute ring to it, but I prefer the sound of "The Hairy Horror from Hayden Island."

You know the original title was the "Midwich Cuckoos" ; would this shot be the "Renton Rodents" ?
