The traverse on the rubbly slope was paying off: I was closer to my
immediate goal---the upper canyon floor (upper right). Drop-offs to
the left continued to force me to traverse ahead. (Those drop-offs
were as short as five feet, but that's enough to prevent a return
ascent.) At this point I still did not know how I would get from
the head of the canyon to its mouth by the river. This shot is the
first of five that comprise a panorama (from right to left) of
the canyon terrain that would be my next concern.
