This hill is the first bit of the road unofficially known as "Shafer Trail" or "Shafer
Trail Road." The official name of the road is San Juan County Route 142. (This is
explained in more detail at http://www.pbase.com/listorama/2006ut2_road .)

The boat ramp is off to the left. Just ahead: the Plateau of Bruises, so-named by
me because the scenery caused my jaw to drop repeatedly onto the steering wheel.
