The Portal, as seen from "Jackson-Kane Plateau"... 20081021_5576

I use the phrase "Jackson-Kane plateau" to refer to the tilted landscape sitting between Jackson Hole and Kane Springs Canyon. This view is to the northeast.

The gap at center is The Portal, the hole in the ridge through which the Colorado River flows. The ridge is formed of Poison Spider Mesa at left and the Moab Rim at right. Both area have 4x4 trails. At left in the distance is what I believe to be an area in Arches National Park called "The Windows Section."
