The chainwheel guard sits between three short 1x2s that are screwed to the plywood, which is screwed to the floor. They prevented the front of the trike from moving forwards, backwards, and sideways. The red cord tied the trike to the assembly, preventing the guard from popping out of position. It was rock-solid.
