Just read this book after picking it up on a whim at the library. Its author, Chris Hadfield, is a Canadian colonel who has worked on the International Space Station. The book explains what being an astronaut has been like for him. He is the person who sang "Space Oddity" in the International Space Station.
What a read! I learned that being an astronaut requires a person to be very detail-oriented, extremely goal-directed, and willing to be trained for years and years to prepare for all sorts of eventualities. I'm not sure of the value of the space program, but I am definitely sure that astronauts are impressive people.
