Looking east at a 10-foot-tall rock tower that appears in the previous picture

Sand Flats Recreation Aresa (Moab, Utah) view map

This photo duplicates one that appears in a book written by former (deceased) Moab residents and explorers Fran Barnes and his wife Terby. It is my way of honoring their memory and thanking them for producing many guide books and maps of the Moab area.

I was following the hiking directions they give for exploring some fins in Sand Flats Recreation Area and had with me photocopies of the pages for that route. One of those pages (page 31) has a picture of the tower taken from the same angle. The hiking description does not name the tower. The book is “Hiking in the Sand Flats Recreation Area” (ISBN 0-925685-21-6), which I bought at Back of Beyond Books in Moab.

How about a pic of you on top.

Looks like a very tall salad bowl. That said, I don't see any greens around.

Looks taller than ten feet. Nice, sharp photo.
