This television box sat in our storage room (the third bedroom) for about ten years. During that time it held various things; some of its past contents are written in black. Every time I went into the storage room I saw the box, and on numerous occasions I handled its contents. Thus was built a connection, an attachment. On 20 April 2003, in one of a series of its re-assignments, I had the notion to write the date on the box (I date things as we obtain them).
We had a garage sale in 2006, which provided the motivation to clean out the third bedroom; that action made the box extraneous, so in the spirit of "getting rid of things" I cut the box into pieces and recycled it. Although I don't miss the box, it will reside forever in my memory. For a pack rat, a thing is never completely gone.
