My Subaru sits on San Juan County Road 142 (CR 142). I stopped to open the gate. Just out of view at top left is Dead Horse Point, site of an overlook with a mind-blowing view. This was my first experience on CR 142. Four years later the gate haD been replaced by a cattle guard.

This road is often called “Shafer Trail,” but that name is unofficial.
