Stone age data storage

Sheesh---I can remember when these "floppy discs" were state of the art. I used them from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. Each one could hold the unbelievable amount of 1.5 megabytes! Their predecessors were clunky by comparison: larger, round, as stiff as a wet noodle, and needing protective sleeves.

These discs were petite, rectangular, had their own protective case, were easy to handle, and had those cool sliding doors that opened automatically as you inserted one into a drive slot. Best of all, you could put one in your shirt pocket! Man, those were the days...

This collection of disks was my data back-up system for years. They would not do the job any more. These days, every one of my digital photos takes up the space provided by four or five of these discs---not exactly convenient. My 16-gigabyte flash drive holds 16,000 times the data that one of these discs did.

This brings back memories. I had the same trays.
And I remember the really floppy ones.
Sometimes things do change for the better.

At least this old stuff worked most of the time. And i never heard the word incompatible.
