My car sits in Junction Valley, Utah for the first time. I had just driven here from nearby City of Rocks National Reserve in southern Idaho.
The sign belongs to the Box Elder County Highway Department. Seeing the sign was gratifying because it told me I was at last in Utah. (Entering Utah is sort of a rite of passage for me.) However, I was laboring under the misconception that this was the Idaho-Utah border when in fact I had passed the border 2.5 miles (4km) back (I think the "Entering Utah" sign at the border was missing).
Junction Valley is part of the most direct route from City of Rocks to Wells, Nevada. The Idaho portion contains Moulton, site of a small surface quarry and an abandoned pioneer-era home. In the Utah portion of the valley is Lynn, a "community" of two or three buildings that appear to be one household.
