The green tarp was my handcart assembly workspace. When dry, the mud flat is dusty. The tool at the left edge of the tarp is a small mattock, useful for loosening hard dirt during road repairs. It replaced a crowbar that I used to take on trips to Utah.
Ralph Tripod just stood there, supporting my camera. He never uses a mattock.
