The Crater Island mud flat had no shade, so I had to create my own using the handcart. The mud is whitish because it is covered with a very thin layer of salt. The salt stained my clothes but the stains came out when washed. I am sucking on the drinking tube of my Platypus water bladder and my right hand is tripping the camera's shutter with an infrared transmitter. As I laid here, I tried to image being a member of the Donner party, seeking shade in this godforsaken desert by getting under a wagon.
Joe Tripod, who works wonders of camera support regardless of the terrain, was on duty for this photo. He needs neither shade nor a drinking tube.
