This wheel is not turning

Crater Island, Utah (26 mi./ 42 km northeast of Wendover) view map

The moist, soft clay-like mud stuck to the tires with a vengeance. Pulling the handcart with such a build-up of mud was impossible. To continue hiking I had to spend 15-20 minutes to scrape the mud off, and during the four-mile hike I did that five or six times. Not fun.

Background information about the handcart appears at the gallery level. Geo-tagging is approximate.

I built a cart to carry rocks and specimens. I am an avid rock and mineral collector. I used those type of wheel on my car and the day I used it on a trip, it was raining and the old mine pit was muddy. Like yours my tires got clogged up. So after I got home, I "ciphered" a while and decide to change the tires to taller narrow tire, a fifteen in bike tire. It worked great even in muddy conditions. I can relate to your story. Mud flats. Now it makes sense to me.
