Flaming Sunbirds at Mt. Makiling

I returned this November 3rd to the sunbird-rich spot at Mt. Makiling, hoping to see again the male Flaming Sunbird, and if the heavens approve, get some decent shots of it.... I was not disappointed...:)

This bird, aside from being uncommon and thus difficult to find, has a highly contrasting plumage, making exposure tricky in its preferred dimly lit habitat.
To complicate things further, it's also very skittish, making it tough to freeze with the slow shutter speeds allowed by the undercanopy low light.
A combination of luck and patience resulted into what are probably among the most detailed captures ever of the male of this species in the wild.
