Checking out access to Candaba wetlands

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

The frequency of rains has slowed down, so I decided to check the access trail to my favorite wetlands. Nope.... my birding vehicle still can't access the site and I'd to walk the last
couple of kilometers with my heavy gear. Perhaps a week more of continual sunshine will allow me complete vehicle access. The migrant ducks have arrived alright, but they're very shy, yet to be
used to seeing people. The earthen dike was overgrown with tall grasses on both sides, making flight shots from that vantage point very difficult. I might not have been rewarded with decent
bird photos in this sortie, but I witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen...:)
SUNSET AT CANDABA. I was on my way out of the wetlands when the setting sun suddenly peeked through some clouds in the horizon.
It showed itself for only a few seconds, but that was enough time for me to jump out of the vehicle and capture the spectacle.

GARGANEYS ARE HERE. A familiar scene welcomes me to Candaba - a Pied Harrier harrases a flock of Garganeys, and the scared little ducks were flying all over the big pond to escape from the raptor.

A SKYFUL OF GARGANEYS. Hundreds of these erratic flying ducks take to the air when a Pied Harrier swoops low over the wetlands.
