Grass-Owl in flight at Candaba wetlands

Again, I meet an old friend, which
I first captured in flight
three years ago.

The circumstances are similar -
a sudden cloudburst rendered
the wetlands very dark,
as if dusk descended
an hour earlier than it should.

This silent predator comes out to hunt,
and the heavens answer my prayers
by briefly parting a portion of the clouds
for some sunlight to filter through,
giving me a few more photons to work with.

Unlike in 2005 when I was shooting
jpegs with a 20D + 400 5.6L,
I'm better prepared this time.

I'm ready with my 1DM2 plus a naked,
extenderless 500 f4 IS,
primed to shoot in RAW
and with pre-metered manual exposure settings.

This time I like his photo better. :)
