We have a resident Cooper's Hawk in our Catonsville neighborhood, and I see hem on every light pole on 295. Thanks for the pic--I've been wondering what species it is! We now know its cry as well, and I hear them all over the area!

Saw one grab a large crow today right below my window. It took it into the bushes, and 20 minutes later when I walked out to my car (right in fron of the bushes), I heard a "whooosh" as it flewaway just feet over my head with the crow in it's talons. I felt honored to see this!

Since the posting I left on 11/27 I have seen the Cooper's Hawk 4 more times in my yard and the neighbor's yard eating pigeons. You can see tell tale signs also that it has been around from the pile of feathers left behind. Apparently it comes down the alley and catches the pigeons as they fly off the church. Really amazing if not a little disconcerting.-Paige

beautiful photo, it helped me to identify the coopers hawk that just landed on my fence.I beleive it lives around here because I see it all the time. I have 2 Jack Russell Terriers and i worry about the hawks trying to attack them. Thanks for the great shot

This hawk has been catching pigeons that roost on the church next to my house and eating them in my backyard and on my front porch. I live in a rowhome in Hampden. I was really amazed that it would land that close to eat its prey.

Hello, I just found this site because I just identified that I did see an Accipiter cooperii (Coopers Hawk) in my backyard. I saw it last year eating one of my 10 squirrel pests, and about a month ago circling its territory overhead. I too lost the photo shot opportunity--thanks for a great picture. from Waldorf, MD.

Hi, all ... I live in Glen Burnie and today I think I had a Coopers Hawk in my back yard (not too far from Linthicum). I've NEVER seen nor heard of this bird before! I suspect he was looking for some dinner as he was keeping a close eye on the juncos and cardinals feeding at a feeder off my patio. Before I could get a decent photo of him, he took off. Yours is a beautiful shot, Charlie!
