I feel a bit like this mushroom that’s been languishing in the back of our fridge un-noticed for what looks to have been weeks - withered and dry.
There are no ideas left in me – they’re all gone.
So, I gaze into the dark recesses of our fridge and think to myself ‘today I am lucky – I have a fridge full of food and that means two things…..
The first is that I am much luckier than the many millions of people who don’t have access to the luxury of as much food as they want. (I always feel I have to get that one in before someone else reminds me of it.) To be honest, that’s why this shot has happened – I hate waste and the fact that this bit of food, however insignificant, has gone un-noticed until it’s beyond eating, is bloody annoying to me. I feel appalled at the statistic that 1/3 of the food sold in this country ends up in landfill sites untouched.
The second is that I don’t need to stare into the fridge and think to myself ‘now what am I going to cook with half a mouldy red pepper and a two mushrooms – there is enough fresh stuff from the farm shop to make a good meal.
So, there are tomatoes roasting in the oven with garlic and chilli. There are also two jacket spuds that will accompany the ‘home-made cans’ that we’ll have later. (That’s a stoooooopid way of saying that we’re having cannelloni with spinach and fat-free soft cheese, topped with roast tomato sauce and served with a jacket spud.
If barren, resort to describing the meal….it’s worked before, it’ll work again.
Last year - I was also shooting dead stuff - mind you, that one was a lot bigger and not what you'd describe as organic!
