29th December 2006 - hibernation

There are some days when you’d just like to roll the duvet around you, go to sleep and stay there until spring. That’s how I feel today.

We have had a tiresome day, where we discovered that those BLOODY WINDOWS are still not watertight – today is the first rain to hit us in the right direction to test them and we woke up this morning to dark patches spreading out from the edges of the window frames………ggggrrrrrr – need I say more?

We’ve had to venture out to town (my fault) – I needed to get a ‘photo’ printed sharpish and so we had to go to a 1 hour lab in town to achieve that in my timeframe. When I say a ‘photo’, in fact this was literally just some text on photo paper. In essence, I sold some pics, which I sent off to my professional printers before Christmas. After they’d gone, the person who bought them asked me to provide a ‘legend box’ with the photo name, the date and my signature so when he had the pics framed, I would be recognised as the photographer. I must say, this was pretty thrilling (actually stonkingly thrilling if you must know) when he asked me, although the thrill paled today when I realised it meant I had to go into town to get the legends printed because our photo printer here is broken. Anyway, all done now and sent off to my new friend. I sure do hope he likes them when he sees the real thing.

So, I’ve been blown about and rained heavily on. Then I’ve come home and spent the rest of the day processing photos for sale. I know that every ‘job’ has its ups and downs but surely post-processing is one of the most tedious things ever? Especially in volume – it’s certainly driving me nuts.

All-in-all, I’ve been looking at this chap/ess and thinking I’d like to be in his shoes. Wrap myself up nice and warm and attach myself to something that I can stay attached to until the spring.

Mind you, what he doesn’t realise as he slumbers is that I am dying to prod him down and see what he is…..I’m sure some sort of butterfly or moth but am a complete novice at recognising them.

Last year, I was making pasta

Checking the photo against our "Field Guide to Butterflies" we think it is the chrysalis of a Large White Butterfly. They favour sheltered spots such as eaves of garden sheds. Lovely picture.

Me thinks they eat oak dining tables at night :)
