This is an open letter to David.
I have been working hard today (as always) but the truth is that I have also been having a real ball.
I am in a really swanky restaurant (Gary Rhodes’ Rhodes 24) where I have been sampling delights for next week’s big event – our awards dinner.
Yep. It’s been another hard day at the office for yours truly.
So, I’ve eaten a sumptuous lunch and discussed all of the finer points of next week’s agenda. We’ve worked out the layout, the menu and the logistics so our guests feel welcome and at home.
This has been tough. I’ve been forced to taste some of the finest food to be had in London while in the best of surroundings and with attentive hosts.
The meal is now sorted – meat before fish – now that’s an unusual and risky approach but I think it will pay off. The wine has also been tasted and approved. This has been my personal triumph because I chose it from the wine list and the sommelier said ‘he couldn’t have chosen better himself’. Phew – that’s always a tricky one.
This shot is from the restaurant, looking across at Crystal Palace in wild and moody skies. Cool.
So David – you have been stuck with builders and dust while I have been gadding about. I’m sorry. I wish you could have been here too. I wish more than anything you were here and not there but you're not so I have to be here on my own. Lots and lots of love.
Lxx
Last year, I was falling into the abyss.....this is much better!
