18th June 2006 - gooseberry

I hate gooseberries with a passion and am not at all impressed that they are the only soft fruit that’s survived years of neglect in this garden. In fact they are covered in berries. Yuck. I’ve always been of the view that they smell and taste like snot and as far as I’m aware, the only humans who think that’s a good thing are small boys!

However, I do like the shot and think that despite their viciousness and general vileness, they are quite photogenic.

This is a perfect foil for my pic today. I expect I'll get vilified for what I'm about to say (AGAIN) but what the hell.

I have to confess to a real ‘morbid curiosity’ about the ‘tits and arse’ brigade on the meta gallery. Whether or not you regard this kind of photography as ‘artistic’ or not, the photos tell me something else. (Don't get me wrong, I could easily see how Wanda looked happy and PAD of Wanda was done by an extremely talented photographer....it's just that he's the one exception in my view.) I am depressed and saddened to see the looks on the faces of the ‘models’, most of whom seem to be looking at the camera with either misery, venom or just occasionally something that looks to me like fear.

I’ve often talked about this before, but I do think that if you look at a face and it looks miserable, then it probably IS miserable and that should tell the photographer something. Anyway, I know there are many, many folks out there who seem to like the images so I realise I’m in a minority here but anyway, that’s how I feel.

Anyway, what I’m coming to is that there was one in the meta gallery this morning that looked from the thumbnail to be one of the worst from a new name that I’d not seen before – you know, clearly shot at home, on the bed and with a deeply miserable looking ‘model’ in a pose that certainly could not have been described as art, no matter how far you push the boundaries of art. I wonder what that young woman really thought of the person behind the lens.

What intrigued me though was that there were many, many comments on the photo. That’s quite odd because I think that most won’t ‘pin their colours to the mast’ quite so overtly on the soft-porn shots….in fact, most seem to get very few comments I think. When I started to read down the comments, to see what people had found so interesting they’d need to make mention of it, I noticed they were all ‘guest’ comments, all clearly written by the same person. Ha ha – that’s it is it? Post a shot of your girlfriend/wife/slave/whatever then to make her feel better about having her arse all over the internet, make up a load of comments and tell her that her public await the next shot?

Last year, I was being very lazy!

Oh dear. I felt like a gooseberry alright!

I know what you mean about those tits out shots, when you've seen one you've seen them both ;-)

looks like something you'd see underneath a bull!

Monday - My search for gooseberries was fruitless!
I'll try tomorrow on Bolton market.
The pun was unintentional, (honestly)

The last paragraph sent me searching for the image in question. I think you are spot on in your analysis. The whole picture and comments are some of the most bizzare that have I have seen on PBase.

Haven't had gooseberries for years, but they're not so bad with lots of sugar & cream :o)
And they do make a great pic!

They are called goosegogs if you live in the grim North, I haven't had any for years, they'll be number one on my shopping list tomorrow.
I've just used up the sugar I bought two years ago, I'll need some more if I buy some goosegogs, that'll be No. two on the list.
PS. I hope Todd was talking about gooseberries!

I just pass those shots by..no need to give them more attention they don't deserve. I'd rather see a gooseberry than someone being goosed.

I've never seen one up close, but I have had gooseberry jam...
I agree with your take on the T & A brigade, it's one of the things that discourages me when I browse the metagallery...
