To Jill - a celebration of a transatlantic friendship

I've never met Jill - she's a fellow PBASE supporter who I've been corresponding with for some time. We share a love of food and of books. We both have partners called David. We now have (nearly) matching cameras since Jill bought herself a G5 last week.

Jill leaves comments on my photos regularly and is especially nice about the ones of food. She has encouraged me to try to sell some of my food pics commercially. I have been 'practicing' some food shots - I'm going to post a mini-gallery of today's attempts later.

I liked the symbolism of breaking bread for a friend - it's an age old part of a social race. So Jill, thanks for making my day (again) with your kind words. I'm so thrilled that your little girl now knows Charing Cross!

It makes me feel really great to know that through PBASE I've made such a lot of friends that in any normal circumstances, I would never have met. I love to share people's lives in this way. Dan Chusid - whose amazing galleries of the fires in San Diego were terrifying, Sue Crocker, the PADers, Chris, Ray, Norman, Pall, Michael, Jeanne, Ian and the rest, Koray from Turkey, Timothy Hoffman and all the rest - what an amazing cyber community this is.

The bread is home-made foccaccia, served (as Ian rightly guessed) with organic extra virgin olive oil and good quality balsamic vinegar and if I am to get good enough at the food photos to try to sell them I am also going to be hugely FAT as a great deal of this was eaten while composing my shot!

With so many friends across the globe perhaps we should do some pix of national/regional dishes. I always enjoy reading your comments Linda as much as viewing your pictures. Talking of food pictures I was recalling to Ian Chappell the other day of my disaster with a coffee sponge cake that turned into a large biscuit!. Well your photo has given me food for thought !( sorry I take that outrageous pun back !!)Norman

You do take great food pictures. I enjoy seeing them. Charing Cross, eh? I just remember that as a tube stop. :) Will take a look at your food shots, and post a few of my own recent ones.

You do have a way with the food shots. Good thing I just had my dinner, or I'd be nosing around the fridge for a treat. Also, the diary aspect of you gallery has made it something I look forward to everyday. You have a unique, funny outlook that I really enjoy!

Hi there Linda... now that looks like olive oil (extra virgin of course) and balsamic vinegar to me, fantastic especially with the home made foccaccia if it is. I'm drooling waiting for your mini gallery!
