clafoutis

You've probably already worked out the conflict in my character....can't decide between being a 'earth mother' and a 'rock chick'. Today the former is winning the battle for my soul.

I came home from work and gave David four choices of supper, two with our current 'abundant' crops (tomatoes, eggs and herbs) and the other two without - yep, you've guessed it - he chose one of the other two. After a bit of persuasion I coerced him into this clafoutis - a dish that's usually served as a dessert, but I've got two fantastic vegetarian savoury dish recipes (surprise, surprise, one had eggs, tomatoes and chives in it!).

I'm a cookery book junkie. I'm never happier than when studying recipe books looking for the next exciting dish. I love cooking and I love recipes. Over the years, I've collected recipes, some hand-written, some torn from the backs of food wrappers and some from magazines. I've been collecting the recipes that had been shoved into a drawer for years and have made up a scrap book of them (in the background in this pic).

The recipes also remind me of the occasions on which I acquired them and sometimes even remind me of people I've not seen for years. This page alone has a recipe from my ex-boss and friend Christine and a hand-written recipe in the fair hand of an ex-colleague from Nielsen, Lynne Berry, who I've not seen for years. That sparks off another chain of thought........
