I’m too new at this lark to be immune to things like this. I’ve left behind my class and my school today for pastures new for all of us. For them, the challenges of year 4 and beyond, for me, a tiny school with a sad past and hopefully a beautiful future.

It’s been a really traumatic day and I confess to losing it at one point when my children were sitting cross-legged in front of their year 5 buddies and all were watching and singing along to “The Greatest Showman”. I looked at their rapt faces and realised it’d be the last time I ever saw any of them and my resolve crumbled. They were safely with other grown ups so I walked out of the room, heading for the staffroom to compose myself and there was the patter f feet following me along the corridor. One of my children had followed me out, recognising my distress and offering sympathy. I was so touched.
