5th April 2018 - worker bee

Addiction is sometimes a good thing. No really, it is when it’s addiction to something positive like this.

I know pbase is for photographers and that’s not necessarily what my use of pbase is focussed on but I have also come to understand completely that if I’m not photographing, I don’t write. That’s a problem for me because it’s like anything else, if you don’t use it, you forget how. That applies to all parts of the process: avoiding repetition, using different sentence structures, choosing interesting or exciting words or lifting what you say above the level you might use in conversation because the written word demands more.

Editing writing is important because you can, with hindsight, see the bloopers, the clumsy sentences and the poor grammar as well as the fast fingered typos. I’d forgotten that writing into Word is so useful as an aide to writing because it is kind(!) enough to point out the duff spelling so that’s one thing you can eliminate quickly. It’s true to say it’s not infallible in this regard, but it gets it right most of the time.

I’m a worker bee and for the last 15 years, with some breaks, one of my pleasures has been writing this strange blog come pad come general meander around life. There is nothing more thrilling that getting comments and the fact that this blad, for want of a better expression, has led to such superb and lasting friendships with people around the globe is source of much happiness in my life.

This little worker bee is probably between 4 and 6 weeks into her roughly six-week-long life as she’s got fully formed wings that are capable of flying and she’s an experienced nectar and pollen collector. Just look at how full her pollen sacks are! She flies up to three miles from her hive to find food in the form of nectar and pollen to help build the comb that holds the honey and the queen’s eggs/larvae. The hive is an extraordinary example of cooperation and community.

My world has become less focussed on self and more on community in recent years and my work efforts have been rechannelled into working for the greater good rather than my own good. If I am to make the biggest impact, I have to practice my own skills so I can build the skills of others. I’m a worker bee just like the one in the photo.
