23rd February 2015 - forbidding fruit

I’m issuing a plea to any of my post-processing guru friends. Laying down the gauntlet if you like.

This apple is beautiful. Honestly. In the flesh it’s a delightful honeyed amber that glows and looks like forbidden fruit, rather than the forbidding fruit you see here. So why is it that no matter what I do it looks horrible in the picture. I’ve tried adjusting the white balance, the saturation, the individual colour channels hues and saturations, all to no avail. It was the same last week when I shot the daffs and is always the same with my digital images.

What is it that I’m doing wrong? Have I missed some fundamental issue with digital shooting that everyone else knows about and I don’t? Is there some neat little post processing trick I need to learn? Is there a setting buried deep down inside the camera that’s set wrongly? Help…
