I’ve been planning a spectacular shot of this amazing ex-church for donkey’s years…and this isn’t it. My idea is early in the morning, wide angle lens, small stepladder. These techniques & bits of kit would have meant getting the glass palace of a shopping mall in the background sparkling in the morning sunshine, juxtaposing with the derelict church.
This, on the other hand, was taken mid-morning on a dull, dull December day when I was crossing the road, struggling back to the car with piles of cardboard in my arms. I’ve been to Staples to buy a pile of storage boxes to finally, properly, file our important paperwork.
The church is, according to Wikipedia, the second oldest church in Plymouth, although it has been derelict since the second world war. It is maintained in this condition as a memorial to the civilians of Plymouth who died in air raids during that conflict. Sadly it’s not possible to get into it, although there is a pavement all around the building, it’s in the middle of a busy roundabout that has no pedestrian crossing to the church. I suppose it would be possible to make a run for it if you fancied taking your life in your hands and doing battle with the traffic.
