These stones are known as the pipers. They are believed to represent the musicians whose playing turned a group of dancers to stone. They are just beside the hurlers, three stone circles and the dancers are the stones. That’s the story anyway – in fact the truth is no-one actually knows why they are there or what they represent because no-one is alive who was then. It’s thought they were built around 3000 years ago and to be honest even that is a guess.
We walk past this spot very frequently and there are often cut flowers strewn across the area by people indulging in quasi-religious ceremonies.
