OK, OK I know – another boring flower shot!
This shot is a “fall back” shot because we set off to photograph a traction engine but discovered we’d been (accidentally) duped so had to photograph other things. What happened was that DM came home and said he could hear a traction engine. Given that we know two things:
1. It’s Boconnoc steam fair this weekend
2. There is a bloke in the next village who is lucky enough to own one of these magnificent machines and drives it there each year, passing along the lane behind our house.
This led us to believe he would be pootling along the lane this evening so we grabbed cameras and dashed up to the village to photograph the beast on its way through the village. Sadly though, despite hanging about in the sunshine eating ice cream for half an hour, no more steam noises were heard and no traction engine graced our village street today. Shame. We think he must have been firing the engine up checking it was working rather than setting off today – hopefully we’ll see it tomorrow!
I have a not-so-secret passion for traction engines but sadly the entry fee is too high for us to afford as there will be four of us…and we’re not entirely sure whether or not our guests will share our (my) passion. The spectators will have a wonderful time though – the weather couldn’t be better and the ground is firm, the combination of which will ensure a fabulous show.
It’s the first summer for absolutely yonks where it’s been possible to “reach for the sun” – all we’ve had in recent years is rain, rain and more rain so reach for it we must!
