3rd July 2013 - honey dripper

OK – I had no ideas for a photo but had a new, unadulterated by butter or toast crumbs, jar of honey. It made me think of a band that I once loved. The band was “Twenty Flight Rockers”. They were exciting (sometimes too exciting), lush and made wonderful, vibrant music.

They were too exciting in as much as on a number of occasions when we went to see them play, the gig ended in chaos with in-fighting between band members, fighting in the crowd, extraordinary nudity and, on one occasion, being locked in the band’s dressing room in JBs in Dudley while a massive fight, broken bottles, knives and all, raged on outside the dressing room door until the police finally broke it all up at about 2am. They were bloody excellent but also bloody dangerous to know. I’m not in possession of my 20FR records any more as I lost them in my divorce but I cherish their memory!

The singer, Gary Twinn, went on to form a rockabilly band called the Honeydippers and this photo, for fairly obvious reasons, was what made me think of them and therefore think of 20FR. I googled Gary Twinn just as I started to write and am, for the first time in a long time, regretful of being so far from “the smoke” because he’s now in a band called The International Swingers and I’d give my eye teeth to be at their gig in London on 19th July…

So, here is some honey, dripping from a spoon, making me think of Gary Twinn’s the Honeydippers, who rose from the ashes of 20FR and are now something else entirely.

I believe Robert Plant also named his backing band in the 1980's The Honeydrippers.

Great shot!

the honey and spoon go together to form an archetypal 'art nouveau' form (or maybe it was the other way round?)...I am happy to leave the band rumbles and ruminations to you
