15th July 2009 - super spurs

I am sore. About as sore as a sore thing can be. I’ve spent two days crawling around on my hands and knees laying a ceramic floor in our kitchen. It’s been pouring down with rain and the only place where we can set up the electric tile cutter where it’s not going to make a huge mess is to set it up under the shelter of the garage up-and-over style door. This is about 20 yards from the house so every time I needed to cut a tile, I had to troop across the lawn in the pouring rain to make my cut.

It’s been a huge and horrible job and it’s not going to be finished for a few days. Last night, I finished work at 7.30pm and we had to pop up to the pub for supper because the kitchen was unusable. Today, I got finished a bit earlier and we set off in the car to see my beloved Spurs play in a pre-season friendly at Exeter City.

I was so thrilled to find out we were playing there and it was a real trip to a different place and time because there is no seating or cover in their away supporters end. It was a return to standing on the terraces, squashed in and swaying with the crowd as the ball moved around the pitch. Quite nostalgic! We set off early enough to get a meal in Exeter and found (online before leaving home) a complete treasure of a vegetarian restaurant in the town centre and a short walk from the ground.

The game was hardly a major battle but it was good to see almost all of the squad play at some point over the two halves (we completely changed our team at half time, against the normal rules but anything goes in a friendly). Here is a bit of action with Benoit Assou-Ekotto pushing forward while Modric, Palacios and Dawson look on.

We won 3-0 and had a fab evening – it’s good to escape the rigours of real life for an evening.

LOL! I wondered if you'd go to see them as they were so close! What a fab football pic. I have happy childhood memories of pre-season friendlies on warm summer evenings. When I lived near Peterbrough, 'The Posh' played at home to West Ham just after the 1966 World Cup. It was like God had visited to see Peters, Hurst and Moore play on our pitch!
