What does this shot make you think? That we’ve had dreadful weather? Gloomy blackness? Rain? Not at all the sort of day for getting washing dry?
You see – that proves my point entirely. The weather today has been glorious and the skies so blue that I was looking at the raindrops on the washing line as I pegged out my washing, glinting in the sunshine and I decided that the sun on the rain would make a great photo.
I ambled around the rotary line, shooting interesting formations of droplets and line yet this one, with no sign of sunshine, looks so dramatic that I decided to use it instead of the sunny ones.
The truth is that the sun WAS shining while I took it, I think the prisms of light on the drops on the next line back demonstrate that. The reason for the gloominess of the shot is that I was pointing the camera towards “the big tree”, which casts a deep shadow over about a third of our garden when the sun is low.
For the purists, half of my washing got dry enough to iron, while the other half needed a quick whiz in the tumble drier to finish off because the forecast for Thursday is grotty. Hurrah for the help of the sunshine to keep my carbon footprint down today. Hurrah for some sunshine. Hurrah for being able to be out in the garden without safety ropes and anchors (recently without them I’d have ended up on Dartmoor)!
