Culzean is a romantic 18 Century Castle built by Robert Adam for David Kennedy the 10th Earl of Cassillis. The castle perches on the cliff edge above the Firth of Clyde and is set in a Country Park with over 600 acres of woodland and formal gardens. It is operated by the National Trust for Scotland.
Culzean was designated as Scotland's first country park in 1969. It's origins date back to the development of the Culzean Castle by David Kennedy and the architect Robert Adam in the years from 1776. Their aim for the surrounding landscape was to create a picturesque dramatic setting for the castle - and they surely did!
