see the light

If there be light, then there is darkness; If cold, heat; If height, depth; If solid, fluid;
If hard, soft; If rough, smooth; If calm, tempest; If prosperity, adversity; If death, life; If hate, love...

You know that I always pay a lot of attention to the way the light is hamndled in photos, so it is no wonder that yours are so much to my liking. But not just that, even though it's easy to be absorbed by those details, there's always a strong composition behind and words to support it that always make us think and that is no small feat.
Well done.

One of the best of pbase, you are Ai Li! ~My vote~

Away from your message, it seems to be an embryonal state of mind, like a new born, helped by light. I love this shot.
Chris Sofopoulos22-Nov-2006 20:49
Creative shot as you always do Ai Li.
Very nice one. v

Ying and yang - no light without darkness - and how JD stated - if black - white! Wonderful concept and translation Ai Li! Helps to stop for a while and thinking about the sense of life...

There are no limits in your creativity!!!
You are a jewel for Pbase. A big vote.

What more to say, Ai Li? Your commentors have offered many interpretations of this image. You've become quite adept at burrowing to the core of an idea, emotion, state of mind, and presenting it in such a way that all relate primally.

.. and if black, white. You are the opposite of the fridge, with your boiling creative mind. The blinded eyes give the disturbing feeling that you are jailed there. Fabulous textures of skin, that makes a striking contrast with the cold walls. Yes, this image is about opposites, and it is a brilliant illustration of the text and of your creativity. Vote.

I thought it was a tanning bed too at first....but now I look again and think you are inside of a fridge! And then I read some of the comments and see that I am on the right track! How did you do that!!! Amazing! Creative and beautiful.

I can't help thinking you're in a tanning booth.. sorry..lol
Sensory deprevation can come in self-imposed forms... I like the idea of not speaking so we can hear and see better.
I like your series so far.. looking forward to more

Yes, the eternal wheel of dialectics never stops turning. The world of opposites has us caught in its web. The only way out is to find the static, unchanging dimension within. Great shot.

Awesome! Well done, Al! V

Another well-planned and thought provoking image.

A perfect symbolisation of how we may choose to ignore the light, how we may choose to refute warmth extended to us, and how we may choose to set boudaries around us which we feel we cannot escape. There is always a door, light, warmth. It is up to us as individuals to acknowledge their presence.

Again, a magic play with light, and a stunning perspective.

Great image!

I see this image as social commentary rather than a self portrait. Your passive, blindfolded figure symbolizes all of us. It implies that although we may have incredible technology our disposal, are often blind in terms of using it for our own good. If we allow ourselves to be seduced by technology for its own sake, we run the risk of becoming slaves to our tools, instead of masters. We may well be trapped by the very technology we create to help us. A thought provoking image, Ai Li -- beautifully conceived and executed.

Another really arresting image, I really like it. Seems to have a very claustrophobic feel to me
