silent night

" If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me
and just forget the world? "

(Yes, back to my old moody self. Realised that I'm just not weird and crazy enough :-( Gonna try again!
Here is a new mini sub-gallery about my senses, with and without them. Nothing provoking.
Merely thoughts and moments that I sometimes have or wish to have. And perhaps you too.)

Wonderful work on the light and the composition. It is very interesting to see the the black part on the left is adding to the image. The textures and the colors of the skin work perfectly with this blue glow. Very impressive work! Voted.

Wonderful image Ai Li - I think everything else has been said. V
Ken McColl18-Nov-2006 16:42
The way one can still detect tension held within the fingers AiLi..gives (for me anyway) its teriffic power. You are not comfortable lying there....like keeping out the sounds KMc
Guest 18-Nov-2006 14:53
I have no words. It's the work of someone who masters her light.
Guest 18-Nov-2006 13:48
my words are not needed. the brilliance of the image has been summed up.

I think this is NOT as depressing as some of your others - it's quite beautiful and the blue gives a sense of calm.

A human landscape at twilight Ai Li. ...then I opened it and realised that it was far greater than any earthly landscape. This is one where I could lie and watch it forever...;-)K.

Okay, you are awesome and your images are so creative and surreal! I'm constantly amazed at your work. You have my utmost respect and you are one of the best photographers. Love it. Of course, you have my vote again!

The play of light around your shoulders is so delicate and youre so gently exposed. You have very expressive hands and here there's just that hint of warmth to keep you there as the light fades. Your faceless portraits often share features but always say something new about you. Love Naill's words.

This is another beautiful photo...the way you're blocking out sounds with the hand and the light is all around your ear, in fact the light generally with the fade into blackness to the left...it looks great.
Guest 17-Nov-2006 22:57
WE love when you're moody.
What else can I add that's already been said? I'll just vote.

This is quite stunning, Ai Li. Your body looks like marble; there's something cadavrous about the way your pale skin, shoulder blade and spine showing through appears sat, motionless on a table we can't see. Only the hand expression betrays the fact that you are alive and screaming, if not kicking. The lighting, placing the origin of that emergent blue invisible behind your face, your line of vision is inspired, as is the way your body enters tightly into the frame, almost invading it: it resembles almost a scalpel, cold, clinical beyond pain or remorse. Certainly voting for this.
Sharon Rogers17-Nov-2006 20:46
If I cover my head with my hand will the problems go away? Love the blue tones too. Well done. v>
Guest 17-Nov-2006 19:47
The hand is yours and emphasises the wish for him to be by your side.
At the same time the hand blots out the noise.
A blank wall and no sound, just a wish to share a moment - a long, peaceful moment -
without any stresses, pressures or distractions, from outside.

The composition works wonderfully with the mood. Excellent and emotional work, AL

Fantastic! But seen the ammount of comments you already knew that. Vote anyway.
JSWaters17-Nov-2006 17:35
There is a reality to this that I think the high key shots didn't capture. The cool blue color magnifies the silence and that coolness (loneliness?) is echoed in your skin, almost like alabaster. The beauty of this is we all relate to it - it's a vulnerability that at one time or another everyone experiences. (Don't worry about the weird and crazy. It will evolve, or it won't. You're obviously comfortable here.)

Phil Douglis17-Nov-2006 17:33
It is the interplay of darkness and gesture that speak here, Ai Li. The concept is not new, and there are no incongruities here to bring new ideas to light. However the image is richly abstracted and the human values of moody introspection are certainly evident. When we feel loneliness in others, we often wish we could reach out and help. And that is what this image does -- it draws the viewer to it out of compassion.
De'Carr Studio17-Nov-2006 15:57
You have a unique and creative style to your work. Beautiful, Al. vote

Ai Li, this is a perfect interpretation of the prose. It looks as if you just want to focus on the beauty of that illuminated blue, whilst your love is shining on you. Nothing else matters.

Your best by far.. it's spectacular, Ai Li..
There is a sadness (as shown with the placement of the hand) mixed with sensuality that draws one in.. I can't stop looking at this, it is truly a piece of art..

Oops! I shouldn't be here in pbase... right?? Oh bummer! I forgot to make myself invisible.. Fridays!!
Ana Carloto O'Shea17-Nov-2006 15:24
Yes! I love your moody and heartfelt photos as they speak the same language of mine. This is a very beautiful one, different from the other highkey shots you've been doing and with an excellent use of the light and negative space. I love the long crop too.
There is no greater beauty when words and image harmonise themselves in a way that can light the emotions in those that contemplate them.
Well done.

"When you’re weary, feeling small, When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I’m on your side. When times get rough, And friends just can’t be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water.. I will lay me down."
