One of your greatest gifts, Ai Li, is your instinctive feeling for graphic design. But you only use it now and then in your street photography. Many of your images seem randomly made. All too often you seem to concentrate on your subject matter itself, and tend to forget about organizing it as coherent, cohestive forces for expression. This image, however, is very special. You sense the graphic power of this scene, and make it work for your idea. The off center placement of the subject, the sweep of the horizontal bench, the varying tonalities of the wall itself as it meets another wall at the corner of the building, is extremely expressive. These graphic elements make the woman, as Ray says, seem so alone. The mysterious purse at the other end of the bench asks questions of the viewer and asks us to think about its owners disappearance.
