wong tai sin hong kong

where the west meets the east

I paid a visit to a well-known traditional temple where many worshippers gathered.
Found a foreign tourist lighting joss sticks and making a wish, just like the locals.
Joss sticks are basically slender sticks of incense burned for religious purpose,
mostly by the Chinese. They are usually burnt during spiritual rites and for prayers
as a form of communication to the heaven (or to the "non-human" world depending on the intent).
I was not sure if the lady understood the meaning and significance.
But it’s certainly interesting to see someone from another part of this world,
who’s willing to experience a different culture and belief.

I salute you for this image, Al -- you measure an act of faith here in simple, abstract terms. It is every bit as evocative as my similar image that I think Roberto must be referring to below:http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/58754358 -- they could be father and daughter!
