cheung chau hong kong

my drinking place

While strolling along the coastline, I noticed this woman sitting and drinking in solitary.
Not sure what's on her mind... A mere relaxing moment or drinking her sorrow?

The barbed wire his definitely a threatening symbol, but the "anarchist" mind will forget that it can be protective too. Maybe she feels protected by the wall, it might even make her a shield against the noise of the sea and the city?

She just seems to be ignoring the grim scene judging by her colourful clothing. A very strong iamge.

Again I find rythem here, very nice.

Finding a moment of peace while surrounded by barbed wire is an incongruous concept, AL -- and you execute it well here. The key is selective focus -- the soft background renders the scene as a painting, abstracting it and taking it out of the realm of the ordinary. The image is rich in human values as well, symbolizing a world where trust is often replaced with fear. You are a story-teller here, AL -- and eloquently so.

The barb wire feels of exclusion to me...either keeping out or keeping in...it's a sad image to me either way. K

wow..this is beautiful... a print fit for a wall - I love that it's in color..
Guest 14-Jun-2006 21:34
It is good that you know that alone is more than sadness - it can be many things - whatever the case is she is looking beyond herself and that is good...like the comp with her along the edge with plenty of room with her eyes to wander...

This is one of the major things modern photography can offer - thought provoking and to create a "momentum" in the viewer`s mind. The possibility of more than one story....so sensual, so creativ Ai Li!
Guest 14-Jun-2006 15:28
Strong shot beautifuly composed... I like the open wall on the right, in the direction she looks (if it's sorrow, there is still an hope!)... the background mountain which, to my eyes, didn't closed the view... and the light (she seems to attain enlightenment by her thought!). Well done!;)

theres nothing unusual 'bout a woman drinking alone near a barbed wired covered concrete pier .
Danger - what a scene!
