“WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED” - "REAL MEN DON'T RAPE"
“The violence on Women in South-Africa is a real disaster” mama Darlina says,” we have to put a stop to it because for women it is no longer bearable”.

The 7th of December I join an action during the 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM EVENT, 16 days against domestic violence and rape of women. Some 60 women take part in this women action against domestic violence in Kalk Fontein in Kuilsriver, a township in Cape Town. In silence and dressed in black, their mouths tied up with a black belt, their banners scream why they step into the streets: “ it is not our fault - break the silence - real men don’t rape – stop domestic violence - we will not be silenced”. In the district the march does not go by unnoticed. In the closing speech the participants demand that the policeforce will take at last their complaints seriously and will take action against bodily harm and rape. Then the women start to sing their demands while dancing in a circle on the square. “And now we will go to the policestation to hand over our demands” says mum Darlina. “They promised us to be here to accept them, but they are not here. If the mountain doesn’t come to us, we must go to the mountain”.

These brave, strong women step into the streets in their township, against violence on women of which they are victims everyday. I am deeply impressed by their militancy and hope that the Ceremonial Offering and Christmas will bring more peace this year.

vrouwen manifesteren in Kalkfontein (Kaapstad) tegen verkrachting en vrouwenmishandeling; “Het geweld op vrouwen is in Zuid Afrika en Kaapstad een regelrechte ramp” zegt mama Darlina, “wij moeten dit echt een halt toeroepen want het is voor vrouwen niet meer houdbaar”.

Op 7 december nam ik deel aan een vrouwenactie in het kader van de "16-daagse tegen mishandeling en verkrachting van vrouwen" in Kaapstad. Een 60-tal vrouwen nemen deel aan de vrouwen actie tegen huiselijk geweld in Kalk Fontein in Kuilsriver, een township in Kaapstad. In stilte en in het zwart gekleed, hun monden met een zwarte band dicht gebonden, schreeuwen hun spandoeken uit waarom ze op straat komen. “het is niet onze schuld – breek de stilte - echte mannen verkrachten niet - stop huiselijk geweld – wij zullen niet zwijgen”. De optocht gaat niet ongemerkt voorbij in de wijk. In de slottoespraak eisen de deelneemsters dat de politie hun klachten eindelijk au serieus zullen nemen en optreden tegen mishandeling en verkrachting. Dan beginnen de vrouwen hun eisen te zingen terwijl ze zich dansend in een cirkel op het plein bewegen. “En nu gaan we naar het politie bureau om onze eisen te overhandigen” zegt mama Darlina. “Ze hadden beloofd die hier in ontvangst te komen nemen, maar ze zijn er niet. Als de berg niet naar ons komt, zullen wij naar de berg gaan”.

Deze moedige, sterke vrouwen komen in hun township op straat tegen het geweld op vrouwen waarvan ze dagelijks het slachtoffer zijn. Ik ben diep onder de indruk van hun strijdvaardigheid en hoop dat hun Offerfeest en Kerstmis dit jaar iets meer vrede zal brengen.

« La violence contre les femmes en Afrique du Sud est un véritable désastre, » dit mama Darlina, « nous devons arrêter cela parce que pour les femmes ce n’est plus supportable. »

Le 7 décembre, j’ai rejoint une action pendant les 16 JOURS D’EVENEMENTS MILITANTS, 16 jours contre la violence domestique et le viol des femmes. Quelques 60 femmes prennent part à cette action de femmes contre la violence domestique à Kalk Fontein à Kuilsriver, un township du Cap. En silence, et habillées de noir, la bouche bâillonnée par une écharpe noire, leurs calicots hurlent pendant qu’elles marchent dans les rues : « Ce n’est pas notre faute – Brisez le silence – De vrais hommes ne violent pas – arrêtez la violence domestique – On ne nous réduira pas au silence ». Dans le district, la marche ne passe pas inaperçue. Dans le discours final, les participantes réclament que les forces de police prennent enfin au sérieux leurs plaintes et qu’elles entrent en action contre les blessures corporelles et les viols. Ensuite les femmes se mettent à chanter leurs revendications tout en dansant en cercle sur la place. « Et maintenant, nous allons au commissariat pour y déposer nos revendications, » dit mum Darlina. « Ils nous ont promis d’être là pour les recevoir, mais ils ne sont pas là. Si la montagne ne vient pas à nous, nous irons à la montagne. »

Ces fortes femmes courageuses marchent dans les rues de leur township, contre la violence contre les femmes dont elles sont victimes tous les jours. Je suis profondément impressionnée par leur militance et j’espère que l’Offrande cérémonielle et la Noël apporteront plus de paix cette année.
