02 - Presentation Workshops + start 2 WS

After the presentation of the Workshops I could take a few images of two workshops: the one on Palestine and one on Afganisatan.
The workshop 'The workshop on feminist alternatives to military action' which I attended I will show in the next subgallery.

Militarism goes hand in hand with patriarchy. Violence in war is perpetrated largely by men, and suffered disproportionately by women, yet the voices of women as both victims of gendered and sexualised violence or active agents of resistance to that violence are largely ignored.

The international WiB conference in Bangalore was a rare opportunity for women from various struggles across the world to find common approaches to resist the continuum of violence against women.

Each international conference is held in a different country, and brings a different perspective. This year, more women from India were able to attend than ever before, and brought a unique fusion of resistance to the violence experienced by women through rape, caste discrimination, dowry murder – and through economic globalisation and the new far right backlash in India.

The workshop on feminist alternatives to military action was just one among many in Bangalore. Other workshops explored genocide in Armenia; injustice, inequality and violence against women in Afghanistan; Flashpoints of war – in Palestine, North East India, Kashmir and Sri Lanka; hate politics; culture of violence and violence of culture; virtual gender violence - cyber crimes against women; climate change and war; nuclear weapons and nuclear energy; mediation beyond borders; feminist anti-militarism and everyday life; lesbians in the peace and justice movement; and dance for peace.
