Demonstratie tegen Verkrachting in Nagpur van de Domestic Workers Movement (oprichter: Zr Jeanne Devos).
In Nagpur heerste grote opschudding. Een dienstmeid, verkracht door haar werkgever, had bij de politie officieel klacht neergelegd. Die werkgever, Bollywood acteur Shiney Ahuja, een beroemde filmster in India werd gearresteerd. In twee dagen tijd zagen we echter hoe de toon van berichtgeving in de media veranderde. Hoe zwaar weegt het woord van een arme jonge vrouw tegenover dat van een rijke en beroemde man? De dienstmeid, die eerst slachtoffer genoemd werd, kreeg nu te horen dat ze het wel uitgelokt zou hebben, dat het zeker een complot was tegen die brave man. Of hoe een dubbeltje rollen kan op de schaal man-vrouw, maar ook op de schaal rijk-arm. Het slachtoffer was praktisch dader geworden… Op een avond zagen we in Nagpur centrum een groep vrouwen van de "Movement of Domestic Workers" manifesteren. Voor hen was het duidelijk, zij kwamen hun steun betuigen aan deze vrouw. Ondanks de verdachtmakingen aan het adres van de huismeid en alle getuigenissen over hoe goed de filmster toch was, verhieven deze vrouwen hun stem en eisten dat de verkrachtingen moeten stoppen!

A domestic servant, raped by her employer, put formal charges against him to the police. That employer, Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, a famous movie star in India, was arrested. However, in less than two days we noticed how the tone of the news coverage in the media changed. How severe is the word of a poor young woman in relation to that of a rich and famous man? The domestic worker, who was victim at first, was told now that she had given provocation, that it certainly was a conspiracy against this decent man. Or how a storyline can change when the scale man-woman, and the scale rich-poor is involved. The victim practically had become perpetrator... One night we saw a manifestation of a group of women from the Movement of Domestic Workers in the center of Nagpur. For them it was clear, they came to express their support to this woman. Despite accusations to the address of the domestic worker and despite all the testimonies in advantage of the movie star, these women raised their voices and demanded a halt to the rapes of domestic workers, to the rape of women!

Une jeune fille, violée par son employeur, avait déposé une plainte officielle à la police. L'employeur, une grande vedette de cinéma en Inde, avait été arrêté. En deux jours, nous avons vu le ton de la couverture des médias changé. Combien pèse la parole d'une pauvre jeune femme face de celle d'un homme riche et célèbre ? La domestique d'abord pressentie comme victime est devenue celle qui avait provoqué. Certainement, disait-on, c'est un complot contre le brave homme! Ou comment une histoire peut changer lorsque l'échelle homme-femme et l'échelle riche-pauvre sont en cause ! La victime était pratiquement devenue une délinquante... Une nuit, nous avons vu un groupe de femmes du "Mouvement des travailleurs domestiques" manifester dans le centre de Nagpur. Il était clair qu'elles soutenaient la jeune femme. Malgré les craintes et tous les témoignages positifs pour la star de cinéma, ces femmes ont levé leur voix et ont exigé que le viol cesse !
