NAA HAARALU BALLE - I BELIEVE I CAN FLY

This is a Dance Drama depicting the various obstacles that women in the rural parts of Karnataka face, and the strength they have received through the collectivization of women to overcome these obstacles.
Lack of access to education, unequal treatment within the home, denial to parental property, and violence are some of the more common forms of discrimination that women face. With awareness and collective effort of the women’s groups and sanghas formed in rural Karnataka through the Mahila Samakhya (= name of the group) Programm many women have been able to find their voice and seek their right to education, to inherit property, and the right to live in a violence free society.
Naa Haaralu Balle is a depiction of the resistance women have shown to traditional beliefs and practices that keep women in a subordinate position. This is the story of the silent but determined revolution that has come about in the rural parts of Karnataka.
