The small horizontal toothed wheel can be lifted into the vertical gear wheel.The vertical wheel is driven by a belt coming from the main shaft. You can see how this works. You see the horizontal lever with the thin rope going down. By pulling this rope it lifts the small wheel out of the big wheel. loosen the rope and it is lowered in the big wheel. Such small thooted wheel is called piggy wheel.
