Eileen - The only thing I can think of is that they may be nesting in your yard and he is defending the nest site.

i THINK WE HAVE A BREWERS BLACKBIRDIN OUR BACK YARD AND IT KEEPS ATTACKING US. WE TRIED FEEDING IT BREAD, WE LEAVE IT ALONE BUT IT STILL COMES AFTER US.
